Electric cars don’t have much of a reputation as fun to drive vehicles, but the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is out to prove otherwise. Not only was the fun factor present on engineers’ minds, but with torque available from zero RPM, the Bolt EV is kind of a pocket rocket.
To prove that, The Fast Lane Car took one Volkswagen Gold GTI and pinned it against a Bolt EV. The GTI is often referred to as the original hot hatchback, but can the Bolt EV offer a new twist on the original formula?
The Bolt EV puts its power down easily and handily dusts the Golf GTI in two out of three runs. The key to the GTI’s victory in one run is a well-executed launch to minimize wheelspin. Otherwise, the instant torque lets the Bolt EV pull away.
Whether the Bolt EV is more fun than a Golf GTI is subjective, but the results don’t lie—the Bolt EV is kind of an electric hot hatch.

I don’t know if it will happen, but I sincerely hope that Cadillac comes out with a Electric V platform that beats Tesla.
Would love for that to happen – Tesla would go out of business. Barra and the entire BoD would probably have to be replaced though.
This is the future.. which means only one thing, in 5-10 years we’ll be reading about how well the latest Camaro ZL1 1LE did on Germany’s Nurburgring; but one significant difference will be the Camaro might be either a Hydrogen fuel cell or an all electric vehicle.
