2017 GMC Sierra HD Spotted, Pointing To A Full-Line Refresh

Just a week ago, we reported a refreshed 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was spied testing in Michigan, featuring a reworked front and rear end, judging by its camouflage cladding. Around the same time, the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 was spied wearing the same guise.

Now, PickupTrucks.com has posted photos of 2017 GMC Sierra HD test mules with the revised looks, including fully-loaded dually trucks and chassis cabs. This could likely mean that GM’s entire line of full-size trucks will be getting an update for the 2017 model year.

PUTC believes that while the cosmetic changes will be slight, the powertrain updates will be significantly more extensive, and will likely see a Duramax V8 turbo diesel under the hood. Guesses are currently at 450 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque. Who knows what transmission it will have, but we believe the Allison name will stay.

  1. The new EVT in the 2016 Cadillac CT6 should be installed in the 2017 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado so they become full hybrids, use Volt’s technology, and save gasoline.

  2. I’m not sure that this would meet with any more success that the first full size truck and SUV hybrids…..

    Certainly, the way that they were priced — and then excluded from incentives — killed any momentum and wasted all of GM’s investment. The $5 or $6K premium was hard to swallow based upon economic payback — and then excluding them from incentives made that $10 or $12K and killed them.

    GM tends to do this a lot. The diesel Cruze never lived up to expectations of 10% of sales — it was priced against a Golf but the real market would be other Cruze buyers and the premium was too much to get them to move for the most part.

    Ditto with the CNG Impala pricing. Maybe a new slogan — Engineered to be the best, priced not to sell?
