General Motors Files For “THRUVIEW” Trademark

General Motors is in the process of securing a trademark for the word “THRUVIEW”, GM Authority has learned.

The automaker filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on January 24, 2014. Assigned serial number 86174492, the application is described as a “motor vehicle rear view mirror that can also function as a display monitor to provide a panoramic rear view.”

The trademark application is currently in the beginning stages, with the USPTO listing a status of 630, denoting denoting a record that has been initialized but not assigned to an examiner.

The GM Authority Take

To us, a “… rear view mirror that can also function as a display monitor to provide a panoramic rear view” sounds a lot like a new kind of rear view mirror. And since it’s a “display”, we’re going to assume that it will show a digital output of whatever is behind the car. Sounds like something we’d love to have in our car today!

  1. Probably to help rear visibility seeing as GMs cars, especially Cadillacs, have been getting worse and worse rear window visibility (Not that that’s bad). This should free up the designers restrictions a little more.
