Upcoming Holden Commodore VF (Chevrolet SS) Rendered

Aside from what we can picture in our heads from last week’s unveiling of the Chevrolet SS stock car that will race in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, this rendering — done up by Motoring — is currently the best visual we can get for both the production Chevy SS and the upcoming Holden VF Commodore. Something tells us that the looks aren’t too far off from what we will actually see.

When the Chevrolet SS launches next year, expect the halo car to feature only V8 power, most likely in the form of the new LT1 and perhaps even something stronger. And with that in mind, don’t expect the SS to be cheap. From what we’re hearing, the rear-wheel-drive Chevy could start in the $40,000 range.

  2. Whatever it looks like, Reuss made it clear that the production will be limted and it will be an upmarket (expensive) car, a notch above the ’09 G8 GXP. It will not be a car for the masses .

While I think it’s great that it will be available, I totally disagree with the name and the approach. Why tie this car in with Nascar? Why purge all other uses (except Camaro) of the SS moniker?

  3. There may not be a Camaro SS any more it could Z/28.

  4. Wayne I think you are right the next Camaro will most likely not have an SS but will be a Z/28 I always wondered why chevy skipped the Z/28 and went to ZL1 name now it makes sense. also there are no other SS cars currently in the line up..but the RS name is becoming more popular with chevy…so they could be cleaning up the line up for the SS flagship.

  7. Starting to remind me of the Chevrolet SSR …….

Having a halo car is great …. but why wouldn’t you go with a more volume oriented model too?? When you factor in fixed costs and distribution costs, wouldn’t it make more sense?

  10. For those not in favor of SS being reserved for this car and not others, remember that Chevy also has Z-Spec in its stable of performance marks… even though it hasn’t yet been used on a production model.

RS will remain an appearance package. Z-Spec has the potential to take over for SS for Camaro, Cruze , Sonic/Aveo.

    1. I think Z-spec would be a better choice for Cruze and Sonic, but not for Malibu, Impala and Camaro. I think Reuss/GM is way overthinking the “SS” thing. Yes the “SS” badge did get overused a bit and some of them were not very good(recent Impala SS and Malibu SS) but others (those engineered by GMPD) like the Cobalt SS Turbo and Trailblazer SS flat out delivered. Don’t believe it? Go check the price of a nice used (not abused) Cobalt SS or TBSS, they bring the money.

  11. This is sad. This car will be near 40 grand and after the dealers put their own sticker on it, mid to high 40’s. NO THANKS. I’d much rather have the meaner looking and more powerful Dodge Charger SRT8 at that price. Not to mention the more technically advanced Dodge will have an 8 speed auto next year in SRT8 form.

I’m a huge GM fan and probably the worlds biggest Caddy fan but I would like to really know. Whats the point in this warmed over rehashed Pontiac G8 GXP Chevy SS again?

  15. This car wasn’t intended to be massed produced in all trims..they looked @ data from the g8 and most of its buyers were v8, thus the name SS and yes this will more than likely be a 40k (depending on power an drivetrains) car for instance: if we were to get an lt1 engine 8 speed auto 6 speed stick than yea look for a 40k starting point, on the other hand if we get the ecotec 6.2 which would be less powerful than lt1 with a 6 speed auto/stick with an optional 8 speed auto we could catch a break and it could start in the mid to upper 30’s especially since the 2014 impala tops out @ 30k a starting price of 33-35k wouldn’t be bad @ all still making it a premium vehicle and making it somewhat affordable! All this “halo car” talk from reuss is damn near rediculous as this rendering above!..expect much better appearence from the production model!!
