Large Cadillac Crossover Expected To Arrive By 2015

According to a report from Automotive News, Cadillac will be launching a large crossover somewhere in the 2015 time frame — the same year we can expect a large flagship sedan from the brand.

From what we know, the crossover will be based on GM’s next generation Lambda architecture, and will slot between the mid-sized SRX and heavyweight Escalade. It’s pretty clear that the vehicle will have a seating capacity for at least six or seven, but that’s as far as anybody can gather at this point.

On dimensions alone, a large Cadillac crossover would make for a great competitor for the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, Lexus GX, and Infiniti JX. But by the time 2015 rolls around, chances are all of these rival vehicles will be either completely new or highly refreshed. This will also be one of the first vehicles launched under GM’s new product development structure. There’s also a small Alpha-based RWD crossover to be on the lookout for.

  3. Haha pretty much called this out in every Cadillac story on GMA. But then again, as far back as bankruptcy, GM had talks about dropping the Escalade name down onto a Lambda platform.
I’m kind of interested in seeing a Cadillac version of the new Colorado, granted GMC will get a Denali Canyon, but a midsize luxo truck interests me. Like most people, I dont have a use for a full size truck, but would like a well equipped midsizer with all the comfort amenities

    2. Yeah but it’s a Ute, not a car, so it’s not like all out performance driving is a focal point here. Acura’s MDX has always ranked high in magazine comparos and it’s faced BMW X5s and managed to finish ahead or very close. The majority of these buyers are those snooty cougars who couldn’t even tell you if their car was FWD or RWD.

      1. I agree I wouldn’t think it’s a pathetic decision from GM. Now I do think that they can come out with Lambda one first then go on rear drive later on.

  7. Now I do think that if it happens then it needs a superior AWD or 4WD system though.

  8. The date is depressing. I’m still happily driving my ’08 SRX, but I doubt that I’ll still be happy with it long before 2015. The second generation SRX is too small. I need the third seat, and more importantly, the cargo space that third seat offers when folded down.

I’ve actually been looking at Escalades, but TCO is far too high for one. Tires, gas, insurance all will cost me a pretty penny. I love my SRX, and I loved my first gen CTS before it, but if this CUV won’t arrive before 2015, then it’s extremely unlikely my next vehicle will be a Cadillac.

    1. I agree. I just purchased a ’14 Audi Q7 as I couldn’t wait (no one can tell me when the Lambda will be produced) and the new ’15 Escalade is too large and expensive. I don’t care for the Audi: too much road noise and the location of cup holders, joy stick, etc. in center console is inconvenient (have to take my eyes off the road to use them).
