NYIAS 2012: Refreshed 2013 Buick Enclave Makes Its Debut

Buick has made itself known in the Big Apple this year with the revealing of its refreshed big crossover, the Enclave, for the 2013 model year. Suburban moms around the country have awaited this moment.

So, what’s new with the 2013 Enclave? Plenty. The exterior’s new-found flared features, garnished with a new black chrome waterfall grille, and new LED daytime running head lamps and LED tail lamps that give the three-row crossover a modernized and monochromatic look. And yes, those are new aluminum wheels, with the 19-inch rims being standard and 20-inchers being an option. Behind those front wheels are new low-velocity dual-flow front struts to give the big crossover more desired handling skills.

The 288-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine engine and fuel economy ratings of the 2013 Enclave are left alone for the refresh — just like the 2013 GMC Acadia and 2013 Chevrolet Traverse updates — but a new Hydramtic six-speed automatic promises to channel the power more smoothly than ever before. Adding to the refinement is Buick’s exclusive QuietTuning method, developed for hushing unwanted noises attempting to enter the cabin from outside, which looks and feels much more upscale than before. There’s also the implementation of the industry’s first center airbag to prevent passengers from colliding with each other in the event of a crash.

The most noticeable features in the interior of the updated Enclave now features new ice blue ambient LED lighting around the dashboard, and a new center stack with a standard IntelliLink LCD display, tri-zone climate control, and capacitive touch controls. Satellite navigation is optional. Additionally, there will be four interior color combinations with complementing wood tones, including a new cocoa leather tone. Also appointed throughout the cabin are higher quality soft touch materials. What’s more,  there are now eight-way power front driver and passenger seats with four-way adjustable head restraints.

The 2013 Buick Enclave goes on sale this fall.

  1. It’s nice, but I was expecting more radical changes. I was really hoping that they would have incorporated the color LCD DIC from the Lacrosse into this. Also I was hoping that they would have given, at least, the Enclave the new corporate Buick steering wheel. But those two points being said, it’s a nice vehicle with much needed upgrades, it’s going to sell in droves just as it did before but I still feel it needs to put a good distance between itself and the acadia and traverse. Change the steering wheel, change the info centre, I still have to say that the new Exploder has a more modern and interesting interior.

  5. I’ve always liked the Enclave since it’s original introduction. This is a very nice refresh especially for the interior. From these angles, I’m not sure I like the revised front end. It looks quite a bit like the Terrazza mini van with the higher set grill and body colored lower front fascia. Maybe seeing it in person will be different. Overall, well done Buick.

  9. I actually don’t care for the Acadia’s new front grill. The Buick grill looks acceptable even if not a large departure from what it was. The rear end is where I had a problem before and still kind of do. I really dig the Acadia’s rear end looks. I would go as far as to say the Acadia rear kind of belongs with the newer traverse front. The interior looks really good and as another mentioned I would love to see Buick finish it off with some slightly different Buick only things on the interior like a steering wheel. The same can be said for a Denali and LTZ though as you will plop down a cool 40k+ easily on those. It would really go a long way if they put a four year warranty on these cars and gave Buick a five year (or all five year).

I think part of what has made the enclave so popular is you can get high end caddy/mercedes/lexus/bmw/acura quality for a reasonable price. The prices on caddy/lexus/acura are truly outrageous for what you get.

I’ll reserve final judgement when I trade in my 2012 Denali in three years. Unless competitors come out with a seven seater in a 2-2-3 config that’s actually nice. Looks like I’ll be staying with one of these.
