You know that old reel you hear governments spool off when something suspicious happens? GM has covered up the rumors of a diesel-powered Chevrolet Cruze being built in Lordstown, OH in essentially the same way by stating that “if and when the time comes, there is no doubt GM will be able to produce a diesel Cruze in America.” My, how neutral.
But really, we’ve all heard this song before. Don’t be surprised if this isn’t the last we ever hear about a U.S.-built diesel powered Chevy Cruze.

Were getting a Cruze diesel in the NA market, there are test mules riding around in detroit. GM PR is not going to say anything until that diesel is ready.
I just drove a new rental (Hertz) Chevy Cruze diesel with a manual transmission 828 km over 9 days in rural France (Bordeeaux-Dordogne), using close to 60 L of fuel, which comes out to an average of 33.6 mpg. This was 90% between speeds equal to 30 to 55 MPH on mostly winding and hilly rural roads, with less than 10% at highway speeds (68-80 MPH). I was shifting for maximum safety, not fuel economy. All aspects of performance, handling and comfort were quite good. I would seriously consider buying one of these if they were offered in the US in a similar configuration to the French model.
