I was testing my AC plugs with my circuit tester and both show that there is no ground connection. My truck was in for the tailgate recall repair and I tested another truck on the showroom floor and it had proper grounding.
The repair shop stated that it does not have a ground and that is by design. I question why the showroom truck does show a proper ground when tested.
Has anyone else tested their outlets?

Are you having a problem?

Technially no.. but my electrical tester shows there is no ground present. Dealership says that is by design but when testing another new truck on the lot it has proper grounding (so I know it is not my tester.. and not by design) Even with this evidence they say it is by design.
Was curious if anyone else has ever tested theirs and if a ground was detected. Apples to Apples mine should have a ground.

Ok, but if your not having a problem then whats the problem??

Cause if it is wrong.. it should be fixed. There are devices that you want that ground as a second path. Plug something into it thinking it is there.. you are jepordizing your device if there is a spike.

Sorry but your way overthinking this. Best of luck..

Hi Jona, you ever get the issue resolved? If you used PartsMan1’s logic, if your tow hitch didn’t work but you don’t tow, there is no problem…which is ludicrous! Of course you want everything working, even if you you’re not using it.

I agree. I would like to reach out to anyone that has a 2023 or 24 silverado 2500HD and a plug in tester to test theirs. The dealership is holding strong that this is by design. If I have more evidence that others have correct grounding I can get this fixed.
Thank you all in advance.

So I’m clear on the symptom you’re reporting, are you testing continuity between the vehicle frame ground (any metal part electrically attached to the frame) and the plugs third “ground” prong?? I have a 2024 2500HD, I’ll check it and let you know.

The ground prong on the AC outlet located in the bed of my truck is electrically the same (zero ohms between them) as the metal bolts on the tailgate.
Any AC outlet with a ground prong should have a valid/functional ground. Them saying it does not have a ground “by design” is a bit ridiculous.
Make sure you’re testing correctly (not meaning to insult your knowledge). The ground prong should be connected to the truck’s ground, not your house AC outlet ground or anything else. Again, not an insult, just making sure we’re on the same page. It’s easy to go astray with a simple misunderstanding.
Let me know, thanks! Kurt

And BTW, you may want to post this type of issue over on the Duramax forum (https://www.duramaxforum.com/). Much more active, many more participants that may be able to resolve these types of issues.

Thanks KurtH. I am actually using the plug in circuit tester I use for home inspections (3 prong, 3 lights that shows if there is anything incorrect with the wiring) And thanks I will post it on duramax also.

Sounds good Jona. I think I spotted your post on the Duramax forum. Please do post back when you find a solution (i.e., fixed, accepted as normal, etc.).
