Watch A Hummer H2 Drag Race A Suzuki Jimny: Video

If you’re looking for neck-snapping acceleration and straight-line performance, the Hummer H2 isn’t exactly the most potent option out there. That said, it does have plenty of power, but the question is this – is power or weight more important in a race? That’s the question posed with the following video, which pits the H2 against a Suzuki Jimny in a David-and-Goliath utility vehicle showdown.

A Hummer H2 gets ready for a drag race.

Coming to us from the folks at the carwow YouTube channel, the video is a bit under 14 minutes long and includes both a standing drag race, a roll race, and, just for the fun of it, a brake test as well.

First up, we get a rundown on the specs, and on paper, the H2 has the clear advantage thanks its naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 Vortec engine. Output is rated at nearly 400 horsepower, while in the other lane, the Suzuki Jimny is running a 1.5L four-cylinder generating a paltry 101 horsepower. That said, the H2’s significant power advantage may not be as impactful as one may thing, and the race is unexpectedly close due to the Suzuki’s considerably lighter weight, tipping the scales at 1,100 kg (2,425 pounds) compared to the H2’s 2,850 kg (6,283 pounds).

In the first race, the Jimny beats the Hummer off the line, but the Hummer catches up for the win, completing the quarter mile in 18.8 seconds versus the Jimny’s 19.1 seconds. The second race brings similar results, where the H2 once again overtakes the Jimny later in the run.

The video then shifts to a rolling race starting from second gear at 30 mph, where the Jimny again holds its own, but is eventually overtaken by the H2, reaching a top speed of around 85 mph.

Kudos to the Hummer. However, the American bruiser doesn’t take all the glory, as the final segment features a brake test from 60 mph, and, suffice to say, the H2 significantly underperforms, taking an additional 80 meters to stop compared to the Jimny. Chalk it up to the mods, the aftermarket wheels, or simply poor maintenance, but either way, the H2’s heft is definitely tangible here.
