The Australian Supercars Championship has been a two-horse race between Ford and Chevy since Volvo pulled out of the series in 2019, but that’s about to change. A third manufacturer has confirmed that it will begin competing against The Bow Tie and The Blue Oval in 2026: Toyota.
Toyota recently confirmed that it will field four Toyota GR Supra race cars starting in 2026. Two of those race cars will belong to the Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) stable and will be driven by Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood. WAU is currently allied with Ford, but it will defect to Toyota at the end of the 2025 racing season. The second Toyota team has not yet been announced, but it’s possible that Chevy could lose one of its teams to the Japanese automaker as well.
“Chevrolet Racing welcomes the news today that Toyota will be joining the Supercars Championship from 2026,” a GM spokesperson said in a statement. “Toyota is a formidable competitor to GM in many race series around the world. Their involvement in Supercars will elevate the profile of our fantastic racing series both here and internationally. The Chevrolet Racing teams, and the Camaro ZL1 Supercar will be ready for the competition.”
The Ford-Chevy-Toyota rivalry in Supercars will mirror that which already exists in NASCAR, where Chevy Camaro ZL1-based race cars currently compete against Ford Mustang Dark Horse and Toyota TRD Camry entries. Toyota also fields Supra race cars in the Xfinity Series.
Chevy and Ford have been staples in the Supercars Championship since the early 1990s. Nissan and Mercedes-AMG joined the field in 2013, but exited in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Volvo briefly competed from 2014 through 2019.
A full-scale model of the Toyota GR Supra will be on display at the forthcoming Supercars race at Mount Panorama, the iconic Bathurst 1000, which is scheduled for October 10th through 13th.

I hate Toyota!
What the he’ll will chevy use?? The Camero is dead because nobody at gm wants to make a pony car. The only other car is the Malibu.
Unless they switch to Cadillac CT5?
Not enough people outside of GM bought a Camaro…
Using a CT4/5 would be cool tho.
True. I feel gm should/could have tried harder. Especially the last few years. It seems like dodge updated the challenger like every year or had a new package. And Ford really knocked it out of the park with the mustang refresh.
I seem to remember hearing cadillac wanted to do more in AUS and I think the ct4 or 5 would help. But cadillac is done with gas cars I think.
