GMC Sierra HD Avoids Highway Traffic By Driving Through Ditch: Video

Getting through traffic is one of the worst parts of everyday driving, often leading to frustration and hot tempers among drivers. For those drivers that let their emotions get the best of them, bad decisions are often not that far behind. Such was the case with the GMC Sierra HD driver seen in the following video, who decided to avoid the heavy traffic by driving across an adjacent ditch.

A GMC Sierra HD off-roading in a ditch.

The video was recently posted to social media and appears to show a GMC Sierra HD AT4 doing a little impromptu off-roading. As the video gets under way, we see a long line of cars moving slowly down a two-lane highway – you know, the usual traffic. However, the video quickly zooms in on the adjacent ditch, where we see an interesting scene play out.

In the video, we see a white GMC Sierra HD in the middle of a grassy ditch directly next to the packed two-lane. The driver is seen attempting to crawl up the adjacent embankment, but struggling to get traction on the grassy ditch. As the wheels spin and fail to get the big pickup over the hump, the driver decides to put it in reverse, backing up before punching it again up the embankment.

We see two big arcs of dirt shoot out from the rear tires as the driver lays into the throttle. The Sierra appears to get up over the initial rise, but then starts to pitch sideways before attacking the embankment from another angle. Once the front tires finally see tarmac, the rear end slides out, causing the truck to sit perpendicular to the road. Luckily, the other drivers headed towards the truck see what’s going on and slow down, giving the GMC Sierra driver a chance to drive away.

While we certainly understand the frustration, it’s probably not the smartest move, and it would certainly ruin the driver’s day if they got stuck or ended up crashing. Nevertheless, it’s good to see that the truck managed to get out of the ditch in the end.

  1. thats how you snap a diff and axles.. when you hit grippy tarmac all of a sudden with spinning wheels

tires being wet and muddy likely offered enough slip to avoid this.

the more you know. ive done offroad things, been there. broke things.

  8. Cutting across the grass median is not as easy as the Highway Patrol makes it look! Troopers are trained extensively on how to exit the median without impacting traffic flow.

    1. The troopers also have the advantage of driving someone else’s car. I’ve seen some slam through some pretty nasty holes hidden by water and grass.
