Often cited as the most profitable automotive plant in the world, to say the GM Arlington plant in Texas is an important facility for General Motors would be an understatement. With that in mind, the assembly plant recently announced that it had built its 13-millionth vehicle, a 2024 Cadillac Escalade-V.
According to a report from the City of Arlington, the assembly’s roughly 5,400 employees celebrated the milestone last Friday. The plant is responsible for the production of GM’s most profitable vehicles, its full-size trucks and SUVs.
It’s worth noting that 2024 is also the 70th anniversary of the facility, as it was opened way back in 1954. Of course, the Arlington plant has undergone numerous overhauls throughout its history, most recently totaling $1.9 billion from 2014 to the present.
“Milestones like these are met only through the dedication, determination and skill of our employees,” GM Arlington plant Executive Director John Urbanic noted. “We can’t thank our employees enough for what they do every day. We build each vehicle as if it were our own and value every customer.”
The Arlington facility has been responsible for building quite a few iconic vehicles over the course of its history, including the Pontiac Chieftain, Chevy Bel Air, Pontiac GTO, Cadillac Brougham, and Buick Regal. In 1997, the assembly was converted to truck production, while a stamping facility was added in 2021.
“This plant is an integral part of Arlington’s history and its economy, both for the thousands of good-paying jobs created for our residents over the decades and our community’s great pride in the world-class vehicles that roll off the assembly line each day right here in The American Dream City,” Arlington Mayor Jim Ross remarked. “The long-standing partnership between the City of Arlington and General Motors is a testament that we are truly better together. We can’t wait to see what the future brings.”
Interestingly, the plant generated nearly $1.2 billion in taxable wages in 2023.

Congratulations for such a long period of excellence!
Congratulations. I guess this means it is time for Mary to shut down the plant and open a brand new state of the art facility. Right next door to the new John Deere plant
