Carbon Monocoque Chevy C10 Is A True Track Monster: Video

While just about anyone can add a carbon overlay to their dash or pop on a carbon fiber hood, this Chevy C10 takes things to a whole new level. Built specifically to take on the autocross and road course, this racing machine was engineered for ultimate speed, and leans heavily on the lightweight materials to do so. Now, we’re getting under the weave with the following in-depth feature video.

The video comes to us from the folks at AutotopiaLA and takes viewers to ZRODZ and Customs, located in Indiana. As the story goes, the build started with the intention to go racing from the get-go.

“[We] just kind of wanted to build the ultimate truck, engineering wise, to actually go out and perform,” says Zach Ingram from ZRODZ and Customs.

The exterior of the truck is based on a 1967 Chevy C10, with only a few small parts underneath the dash kept from the original vehicle. The body is constructed entirely from carbon fiber, and features a Sedev sequential transmission, plus an engine built by Mike Moran, specifically a naturally aspirated LSX producing around 850 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The truck is also fitted with a custom full chassis designed in collaboration with Detroit Speed, featuring a nine-inch rear end, C6-based floating rotors, and a 3.50 gear ratio.

The engineering process involved extensive digital design and CAD work, with the carbon fiber monocoque structure providing significant weight reduction and strength. The truck’s floor and firewalls are structural, with the steel components mounted like an exoskeleton. This design allows for improved rigidity and performance on the track. Weight is just over 3,000 pounds, but prior to adding the race-spec safety components, the truck weighed between 2,500 and 2,600 pounds.

The truck boasts numerous high-end parts, including a Motec ECU, Billet Specialties forged three-piece rims, and Brembo brakes. It also includes components like a Vintage Air unit, power mirrors, and communication systems for track use.

All in all, this thing is an absolute ripper, and the build quality is more than obvious. Check it out in-depth by hitting play below, and make sure to stick around to see this Chevy C10 in action on a runway:

  2. Saw one of a few c10’s that belonged to this clan at the HRPT. Bad ass bunch of trucks. Excellent build quality. Those guys autocrossed like nobodies business. Great bunch of respectful guys who were a hoot to interact with on Day 1 and 2 of the power tour. They helped get the week off to a good start.
