Watch A GMC Sierra HD Duramax Pull A Stuck Semi Trailer: Video

Heavy duty GM pickups like the GMC Sierra HD are highly capable machines, but sometimes it helps to put that capability into context beyond simple numbers on a page. Now, we’re seeing exactly that with the following brief viral video capturing a GMC Sierra HD Duramax as it pulls a stuck semi down a slick two-lane road.

The video doesn’t provide much context as to where this is taking place and how the situation came about, but there are a few obvious things we can glean just from what we see. The video opens to show a damp two-lane stretch of road, with a semi truck pulled over on the shoulder and the trailer still stuck in the middle of the road. One side of the trailer’s wheels are seen lifted off the ground due to the way in which the semi is angled on the road and shoulder.

As the video gets underway, we see a GMC Sierra HD gun it, taking up slack in a tow line before the rear end of the pickup whips across the road with the tow line pulled taut. The rear of the semi trailer starts to move, and before we know it, the whole rig starts to make its way back on to the pavement, all while the four wheels under the GMC Sierra HD spin and fight for traction across the slick surface.

The road definitely looks slippery, so we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the trucker started to lose control of the rig and dived for the shoulder, but ended up getting stuck.

This particular GMC Sierra HD appears to be a pre-refresh model, which means the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine produces an estimated 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

  7. I once pulled a grain hauler with a broken driveshaft out of an intersection up a slight grade and into a parking lot. He told me after that he was loaded at about 180k. It was with my 06 Duramax that was tuned and pipped etc was putting 500hp on the ground and about 1100ftlbs torque. I’ve put on over 750k on 3 trucks. No issues at all
