Chevy C10 Destroys Driveshaft On A Trailer Dyno: Video

Modifying your ride for more power and performance can be rewarding, but it isn’t without its risks. Not only can you destroy your vehicle, but there are personal dangers as well. That much is obvious in the following video showing a Chevy C10 experiencing a driveshaft failure during a dyno pull.

A Chevy C10 on a dyno.

Hitting the web via social media, the video is just a handful of seconds long, showing a Chevy C10 strapped down to a trailer dyno for a pull. The trailer dyno is parked on the street, suggesting that this video was shot at some sort of public car show or event. A group of people are seen on an adjacent sidewalk, watching the action.

As the video gets under way, we see the Chevy C10 already strapped down, the rear wheels spinning as the truck prepares to make the pull. After the nearby technician gives the signal, the driver puts their foot to the floor. The engine starts to put on the power, and the rollers are heard spinning faster and faster with the climbing rpm.

Suddenly, there’s a loud clattering noise and smoke is seen underneath the vehicle. The technician quickly steps away from the side of the vehicle, and just in time too, as a chunk of something is seen flying out from underneath the truck, hitting a table near the spot the technician was standing. The onlookers on the sidewalk smartly move away as well. Meanwhile, the driver puts their head in their hands, obviously distressed by the concerning noises.

According to the video post, this particular setup is good for more than 500 horsepower. However, it looks like the driveshaft wasn’t up to the task of transferring that power to the wheels. Regardless, the video is a good reminder of what can go wrong when modifying a vehicle for more power, and the dangers involved as well.

  2. My C10 was a1971 heavy 1/2 ton with leaf rear springs and a 2 piece drive shaft. If the drive shaft center support bearing were to seize at high RPM……. Oh Oh.
