The No. 17 NASCAR Chevy Camaro SS fielded by Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) is a rare sight in the Xfinity Series, but fans will get the opportunity to watch it run 10 races throughout the 2024 season – and maybe even see their favorite Cup Series driver behind the wheel.
HMS announced that the No. 17 Camaro will first hit the track at Phoenix on March 9th, where Daytona 500 champion William Byron will try his hand in the Xfinity Series with Brandon McSwain on the pit box. As the lead engineer for Byron’s No. 24 NASCAR Chevy team in the Cup Series, McSwain is no stranger to success on track, and he’ll team up with Byron for three other Xfinity races after the checkered flag falls on Phoenix.
Meanwhile, the remaining six races will be called by Greg Ives, who has experience on the pit box in both the Cup and Xfinity Series. He’ll work with Boris Said, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman for their Xfinity Series stints throughout the season.
“The No. 17 is a big part of our story, and it would be special to see it win – and win often – during our 40th anniversary season,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of HMS and chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, in a statement. “The sponsorship has been a big success for HendrickCars.com and our dealerships, and we’re pleased to add more races and take it to another level in 2024. It’s victory lane or bust.”
