A Chevy Silverado owner in Florida was recently ticketed for equipping their vehicle with unauthorized lights, with police stating on social media that the driver was “impersonating law enforcement.” Hilariously, the Chevy Silverado in question was outfitted with green decals mimicking vehicles from the U.S. Border Patrol fleet, plus large letters spelling “Booty Patrol”. Oh, Florida – you never disappoint.
On October 30th, 2023, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office made a post to social media to “raise awareness” about a vehicle with red and blue lights that was “impersonating law enforcement.” The sheriff’s office added that “it’s not just happening here in DeSoto County, but in several other counties across Florida as well.”
Images of the vehicle show the Booty Patrol Chevy Silverado pickup dressed in green decals with large wheels. The front end includes a grid of red and blue lights in the grille.
“Your cooperation is crucial in helping us address this issue and ensuring the safety of our community,” DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office writes. Naturally, the comments section offered its assistance by poking fun at law enforcement.
The very next day after the initial post went live, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office posted a follow-up on social media saying that it had “successfully located both the vehicle and the driver involved in the recent incident of a vehicle impersonating law enforcement.” The owner was issued a citation for violating FSS 316.2397, which prohibits red and blue lights.
“We want to emphasize that DCSO located the vehicle on Sunday, and our initial post aimed to raise awareness about this incident, ensuring that the public can avoid being duped by such individuals,” the sheriff’s office writes. And a good thing too, as all public booty patrol duties should obviously be handled by the proper authorities.
Of course, the original DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office post states that “it’s not just happening here in DeSoto County, but in several other counties across Florida as well,” suggesting the presence of additional Booty Patrol impersonators prowling The Sunshine State. Residents are advised to watch their back.
