GM pulled the sheets on the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD early last month, revealing revised exterior styling, a revamped interior space, powertrain updates, and the new GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate trim level. Critically, the new GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate will be equipped with exclusive 20-inch wheels, but what about models in the dual-rear-wheel configuration?
For those readers who may have missed it, the debut of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD included the announcement that the new Denali Ultimate trim level would be equipped with exclusive 20-inch Ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels with High Gloss black accents, among other unique exterior touches and upgrades. While these attractive 20-inch wheels look great on the single-rear-wheel Sierra HD, it begs the question – what about dual-rear-wheel models? Better yet, will the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD DRW even offer the Denali Ultimate trim level?
To find out, GM Authority reached out to GMC directly for an answer. According to a GMC spokesperson, the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD DRW will indeed offer the range-topping Denali Ultimate trim level. However, unlike single-rear-wheel Denali Ultimate models, the Sierra 3500HD DRW Denali Ultimate will not be equipped with the 20-inch Ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels with High Gloss black accents. Rather, Sierra 3500HD DRW Denali Ultimate models will be equipped with the same 18-inch Dually wheels found on the “standard” Denali trim level.
Even so, the Sierra 3500HD DRW Denali Ultimate is sure to be equipped with a range of upgrades that will underline the trim level’s range-topping status. The cabin space, for example, will feature exclusive Alpine Umber upholstery with full-grain leather appointments and open-pore Paldao wood, as well as all-new 16-way power-adjustable and massaging seats, a 12-speaker Bose stereo, 15-inch head-up display, and a power sunroof, among other highlights.
As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD is once again available with two engine options, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, as well as the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is now uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Look for the 2024 GMC Sierra HD to arrive in dealers in Q1 of the 2023 calendar year.

Finally GM is making good looking trucks again! I’m definitely disappointed with the hp/tq numbers. The general should’ve made their numbers closer to Ford’s. Yet again GM lags behind. Hopefully this refresh includes a painted frame instead of the crud currently in use.
I agree the 24 refresh was good both inside and out. Probably wishful thinking but I really hope GM shocks us with an optional H.O. version of the Duramax. So many things to like about the refreshed GM HD trucks, but still feel it was a missed opportunity not joining the 1,000+ torque club. It just gets annoying listening to the most cocky truck manufacturer on the planet (aka the blue oval) crow about numbers. That said I honestly like the 24 GM HD’s better, I just wish they would’ve pushed the limits a bit further.
Numbers mean diddly squat, performance is what matters. For the better part of a decade the Duramax has been down on numbers but outperforming everyone. So don’t get hung up on those, no one can tell by the seat of their pants the difference in power and none of those guys are even going to need that much anyway.
Those of us hauling heavy loads through steep grades definitely will feel the difference. GM missed the mark again.
Commonsense, that was true for several years but hasn’t been the case for awhile. The gap has grown large enough that GM is now at a disadvantage. It’s yet to be seen how the update will compare but being down 225 ft lbs to the H.O. 6.7 isn’t a good start. That said the Duramax will still be plenty sufficient for the majority of people.
What crud are you referring to vrs paint as currently in use on frame of GmC And Silverados ?
Crud? You mean the stuff that works and hasn’t had frame issues compared to other manufacturers over the decades? Have you actually even looked in to the stuff they use and why? I am guessing not. But please, go on ASSuming and making statements you aren’t familiar with…
As a collision tech with 27 years experience, 12 of which at a Chevrolet dealership, I know a few things about GM trucks. It is common knowledge and a proven fact that the crud on the frames DOES NOT hold up. It dries out and flakes off leaving the bare metal exposed to begin rusting. I have seen countless Silverados and Sierras with rusting and rotting frames due to coating failure. Can’t tell you the number of trucks that the frames broke from being put on a lift or from an accident due to corrosion. Even a few of the engineers from GM I’ve spoken with agreed it’s not a good or durable coating.
If anyone has ever worked on one of these trucks, you wind up with that crud all over because of how easily it comes off.

AGREE ! I bought a new 2013 3500 HD Dually Denali Duramax. In a year , I saw the frame coating peeling off in large flakes. Oddly, this “Crud” is still sticky / waxy on the surface, just does NOT Adhere well to the bare steel frame when it is applied.
I latter learned after seeing a GMC 3500 HD at my dealer, on a 2 post lift, with the Bed removed, and the cab in process of being lifted off. I knew the service manager well, and asked why…..Said have to re-coat the frame of this year old truck, as it is peeling off.
I asked is this a warranty re-call ?? Said “a silent re-call” ONLY if a customer complains. I said sign me up as mine is peeling off like crazy as well.
Same for the new 2016 GMC 2500HD I purchased. Same “Crud” frame coating peeling off after a year. I crawled under a few new 2023 GMC’s and Chevy’s, still using the same frame coat Garbage !! After YEARS of GM having dealers do warranty frame re-coat IF a complaint is registered , and still NO improvement ?? I question MYSELF for an order in place with my dealer, for first in line for a 2024 2500HD Denali Ultimate Duramax.
Only option is aftermarket Rustproofing after delivery, sadly after expending $$$$$$.
FYI: I have been a metal specialist for 44 years in Industrial applications.
I hope you still have the same 20 inch wheels your had in 2022 and 2023 hd trucks because the new one,s are a down grade
I love the wheels, and a splash of Radiant Red Tintcoat would really set them off………at least they didn’t paint them black.
My 2002 2500 HD Silverado had a painted frame.
And my 2022 3500 HD Silverado has a painted frame.
You must be looking at a lower quality truck.

Go to ANY Chevy or GMC dealership, run your finger on the frame…..or ANY 2500 or 3500…..and report back to us. Guarantee your finger will have the crud on it.
Anyone that believes their getting what they are paying for, especially full-size trucks. Has more money than they have, common sense! Don’t intend to sound mean, just saying how it really is.
I like the 18’s but not the 20’s.
Hopefully this generation won’t have the rear wheel arch rot from the last 10k years. My obs truck is in better shape regarding rust than most of the 2012-2019 trucks i see on the road these days when it come to that wheek arch decay.
I pour clean motor oil into the center stake pockets until it drips out in front and back of the wheels. My 2012 up here in rust country shows no rust yet. I also oil the bottom door, tailgate, and rocker drains once a year or so, no rust yet.
What should owners of new GMC or Silverado trucks be using to prevent rusted frames. Also do you recommend a Ceramic product on new trucks to protect cleat coats or is wax ok ?
The power and torque can be turned up. Then other drivetrain components will be on the list of failure, ujoints ,drive line,transfer case. We have turned them up 550 HP, 1,200 ft lb./tq. Speed is expensive how fast do you want to go? As is the truck will carry the load without seeing it sitting on the side of the road waiting for a hauler.
To all those who are commenting about the hp/torque numbers—I have this to say.
Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit, the big block engine manufacturers all (or used to) build engines that produce up to 625 horsepower and 2250 ft.lb.of torque. Those engines are for haulers that pull 140’000 lb. loads in hilly terrain. The majority of their engines that they sold only have 455 hp 1650 ft. lb. of torque. This numbers satisfied most long haul truckers(80’000 lbs.GVW) And you folks that may have never pulled a trailer with these Heavy Duty trucks are commenting about horsepower requirements above 500 hp. It’s just bragging rights..GM knows its about efficiency and drivability.
WD 40 works great at keeping rust at bay. Buy a gallon , put it in a pump up spray bottle and have at it. I live in the northern Illinois area and 5 years of doing this at least twice a year on my 6 different trucks and a couple cars and they all look almost like new.

I keep hearing how great the new interior is supposed to be on these trucks. But after sitting in a 2023 model that’s for all intentions is same as my 2021. I find that the updated dash for the most part is pretty nice. But looking around in the rest of the interior, I only see very minor improvement on the trim materials used. In other words, beyond the dash, it’s still the same basic interior, with minor upgrades for 10,000 extra in price. Sorry if, I can’t seem to see the refinement here for the extra cost.
When can I get my hands on a set of those dually rear wheelhouse liners? I want a set for my 2022 GMC 3500 dually.
