Chevy Colorado sales remained in second place during the third quarter of 2022, as availability (inventory) continued to improve through production at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri – where both the Colorado and Canyon are built.
As recently as June, Colorado supply across the United States remained low at just eight days, compared to a mere six days in early May. That followed just nine days as of the beginning of March, preceded by 15 days in November 2021, and seven days in September 2021. As a reminder, a 60-day supply is considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry.
Production was initially scheduled to end on October 14th, with the last orders due in July. That, however, was extended to October 20th for the last order cycle, while the final production date being extended by two months to December 23rd.
Meanwhile, GM debuted the 2023 Chevy Colorado at the end of July, bringing to the forefront an all-new, third-generation model. It features a new powertrain and plenty of on-board technology in a totally revised interior. It is packaged in a redesigned body riding on an updated platform, resulting in a more refined truck that is also more capable off-road. The new truck is available in five trim levels – WT, LT, Z71, ZR2, ZR2 with the Desert Boss package, and the first-ever Trail Boss, which was formerly offered as a package on some model years of the second-gen Colorado.
While a few components of the all-new model carry over from the current model, including some of the frame and cab structure, just about everything else was overhauled, including the sheetmetal, propulsion, and interior. Under the hood of the 2023 Chevy Colorado resides one engine – the turbocharged 2.7L I-4 gasoline engine, in three states of tune. The tunes range from 237 to 310 horsepower and from 259 pound-feet of torque to 390 and 430. As first reported by GM Authority, the base turbocharged 2.7L I4 engine will receive the L2R RPO Code while the two up-level tunes will carry the familiar L3B designation.
Gone for the 2023 model year are the three engines offered on the 2022 models, including the atmospheric 2.5L I4 LCV gasoline engine, atmospheric 3.6L V6 LGZ gasoline engine, and 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax. A second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission will handle cog swaps.
The new truck will offer a vast range of available accessories, with Chevy set to offer over 200 individual parts and components from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog.
Production for most variants of the 2023 Chevy Colorado will commence on January 25th, 2023, while production of the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 will kick off in April of the 2023 calendar year.
With the current Chevy Colorado, a competitive but relatively outdated product, holding second place with a healthy 92 percent jump in sales, the all-new, next-gen midsize truck should boost Colorado sales even higher when it arrives in the first half of 2023, given that production and supply can keep up with demand. GM has bet on just that with a $1 billion investment in the Wentzville plant specifically for the next-gen Colorado and Canyon.

Good news for GM. I am a Silverado guy but definitely recognize and respect the Colorado for being a great midsize pickup. Congrats!
Sales jumped after announcement of new Colorado only have 4 cylinder and crew cab shortbed as only options. Screw that.
It jumped because dealers got inventory
Looks like back to normal- now lets see that 2023 Pricing already!
Can anyone tell me does the 2022 6 cylinder have dfm and the auto stop start. How about the switch to turn this off. Thanks appreciate this info
Ken to my knowledge it does not have auto start/stop. They are great trucks as I have two with the V6 engine. I would get the Trifecta tune if you want to utilize all the power.
I second the Trifecta tune
Ken, no auto/start stop on the 3.6 V6. It does have DFM but doesn't go into 4-cylinder mode very often.
Good to see . I see plenty them on roadways decent pricing across the aboard . Now for the 2023 pricing . See GM people want midsize - compact trucks . Can we get the next s10 !?
How "new" is the new 8-speed tranny? Last gen sounds like it has tons of issues (60+ service bulletins, class action lawsuit)
Nick, so true, I have one on order. Bigger bed and 6 cylinder and no turbo.
