Like-New 1992 GMC Sonoma GT Up For Auction

A gorgeous 1992 GMC Sonoma GT with just 6,300 miles on the odometer was recently listed for auction via Bring-A-Trailer and is generating considerable interest thanks to its perfect Bright Teal exterior, like-new interior and shockingly clean engine bay.

This compact pickup was first registered in Oklahoma and is one of just 802 examples of the sporty Sonoma GT that GMC produced for the 1992 model year. The Sonoma GT bridged the gap from the utilitarian Sonoma to the bonkers turbocharged, all-wheel-drive Syclone, giving GMC customers a sporty truck that wasn’t going to break the bank. It shared a body kit with the Syclone, featured similar bright red body side logos and also integrated sporty components like factory Bilstein shocks and a rear limited-slip differential.

Power came from the automaker’s venerable 4.3L Vortec V6 engine, rated at 190 horsepower and a healthy 260 pound-feet of torque, which directs power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. With a set of 3.42 gears in the rear end, this semi-hot truck could hit 60 mph from a standstill in about 7.6 seconds, with the quarter-mile passing in roughly 16 seconds flat at 85 mph. This particular truck underwent an engine service in 2020 and received a new battery, serpentine belt and MagnaFlow muffler. The heater core and A/C evaporator were also replaced in 2021.

The winning bidder of this show-worthy vintage truck will also receive full, original manufacturer’s literature, as well as a set of original in-period GM cleaning products that were sold with the vehicle when new.  Partial service records and two sets of keys are also included in the sale.

This truck has already attracted $15,500 in bids with still three days left to bid – quite a bit for an old compact GMC pickup. Check out the lot listing at this link before the gavel falls on this online auction next week.

    1. Well, it’s a 1992.

  3. Pastel colors were big late 80s early 90s. I striped many new, used and custom rides that had those crazy colors. My 34 Ford hot rod and lowered Astro were done in pastels. It sold stripe jobs during that fad.

  4. Same motor as my 94 GMC Sonoma Highrider 2 door 4×4. Now I know where it came from…

At that time, very decent for a 6 cylinder with gobs of torque on tap. One of the best trucks I’ve owned.

  5. I had a ’98 Sonoma extended cab with V6 and ZQ8 suspension. Miss it very much. Great ride and handling.
