Cadillac XT4 sales dropped significantly in the United States, Canada, and Mexico during the third quarter of 2021.

Cadillac XT4 sales performance places the model last in its competitive set of 11 entries during Q3 2021, since the very last spot is held by the discontinued Infiniti QX30, which recorded zero deliveries. The segment was once again led by the Lexus NX with 18,478 deliveries, followed by the Acura RDX in second with 16,546 sales. The XT4’s corporate cousin and E2 platform mate, the Buick Envision (see running Buick Envision sales), took third with 11,162 sales, the Audi Q3 came in fourth with 8,337 sales, and the Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class took fifth with 5,434. These were followed by the BMW X1 in sixth place, Lincoln Corsair (see Lincoln Corsair sales) in seventh, BMW X2 in eighth, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class in ninth. The Cadillac XT4 placed tenth with just 567 deliveries.

From a segment share standpoint, the Cadillac XT4 accounted for a mere 1 percent share, down from 8 percent in Q3 2020. Meanwhile, the Lexus NX jumped to 26 percent, up from 16 percent year-over-year. The Acura RDX also experienced a similar increase, from 18 to 24 percent share. The Buick Envision gained segment share at 16 percent, up from 14 percent, and the Audi Q3 also gained from 9 to 12 percent. The Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class lost a percentage point to 8 percent. Both the BMW X1 and Lincoln Corsair had a 5 percent segment share, but the X1 gained a percentage point while the Corsair dropped 4 percentage points. The BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class both held a 2 percent segment share, with the X2 maintaining its share and the GLA-Class dropping 9 percentage points.
On a combined basis, the two BMW offerings accounted for 5,019 deliveries for a 7 percent segment share.

By comparison, combining the two GM offerings in this space – the Buick Envision and Cadillac XT4 – resulted in 11,729 sales, for a segment share of 17 percent. It were Envision sales that continued to keep GM on the podium.

The luxury C-crossover segment contracted nearly 15 percent to 70,128 units in Q3 2021, with the XT4 being the worst performer in the field with a 91 percent drop. It was closely followed by the GLA-Class, which experienced an 88 percent drop, while selling roughly twice as many units as the XT4.
The downward spiral in Cadillac XT4 sales volume in Q3 is the direct result of production delays caused by the ongoing global semiconductor microchip shortage, which has significantly impeded production of the XT4 at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas. With production idled months ago, dealers had nearly no XT4 units to sell. The assembly line was originally scheduled to restart on August 16th, but GM extended downtime until September 20th. The plant has been running at full capacity since then.
It’s worth noting that the XT4’s platform mate, the Buick Envision, recorded much better sales performance. That’s because the Envision is assembled by GM and its joint venture partner in China, and the SAIC-GM Jinqiao South plant that builds the Envision did not experience the same levels of downtime as the Fairfax plant that builds the XT4.
Looking ahead, we expect XT4 sales to jump as inventory becomes more readily available. That’s because the XT4 crossover is a smart vehicle that is rated well, with the 2019 Cadillac XT4 being ranked as one of the best used subcompact luxury SUVs available for under $30,000 by Kelley Blue Book. In other words, Cadillac XT4 sales should actually be quite healthy, as they were two years ago – when the XT4 held a 13 percent segment share by moving 8,986 units. That was when the then-new-to-market luxury crossover was still finding its footing in the highly-competitive segment.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 will bring about a few minor changes and updates, and we expect the current, first-generation model to live on through at least the 2025 model year. GM initially planned to refresh the Cadillac XT4 for the 2022 model year, but complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic forced the automaker to delayed it until 2023.

I don't see what is so wonderful about the XT4. I test drove the XT4 and then drove the Subaru Outback Touring XT. The Subaru offers so many options as standard, whereas everything, including most of the paint colors and leather are optional in the XT4. The Subaru has 260HP and 4 wheel drive as standard and it is also quieter. Sorry Cadillac, even with my $4,000 credit from my GM Card, I pick the Subaru.
Those seem like very different vehicles. The XT4 is pretty tiny while the Outback has gotten really long.
I personally really like the XT4 styling and packaging. The lackluster drivetrain options are what ruin it for me. I wish it had the lift and AWD capability of an Outback; so I see why you ultimately chose that. But I'd hazard the Crosstrek is more directly comparable, but its hard to say with the Cadillac "half size" segments.
I had an XT4 as a loaner. It is ok to drive. Exterior wise, I like it, better than the XT5. I think the XT4 looks best in the copper like color.
Don't you think the $3000- $7000 additional price markups above sticker window prices by some GM dealers on their new vehicles can have a great effect on poor sales?

The reason for a 91% drop in sales is due completely to a 100% drop in production.
No vehicles built= no sales.
Dealer mark up? If people didn't pay it, they wouldn't be there.
No one is being forced to buy anything.

Thanks for validating my comment. Although there is a shortage of new vehicles, there is not a 100% drop in vehicle production. In part, there are fewer buyers because of the unwillingness to pay for the new pricing(markups) policy on the available vehicles.
The dealer markup scam will backfire with rising interest rates.
The dealer markup "scam" will end when supply meets demand. We are still months away from that moment.

It's not a scam. It's the free market at work. If you had something to sell that was in high demand, you'd get the most money you could for it.
Dealer markups are clearly marked next to the factory sticker. No one is being fooled. If a buyer doesn't want to pay it, they can leave.
The XT4 hasn't been built all year the plant just started running again about 3 months ago and leather is standard on all cadillacs hahah somebody said it was optional and most manufacturers have special cost colors.
The Luxury and Sport models have "Leatherette" (not Leather) as standard and "Premium Synthetic" (not Leather) as an OPTION. Leather seats are an OPTION.
I'd buy an xt4 blackwing version would be insane!
I call BS on the reasoning in this article. While waiting on my new Escalade, I've considered purchasing either an XT4 or XT5 on several occasions and my dealer has consistently had many of both models in stock. That they're charging $3500 over on the XT4 and $4500-$5k over on the XT5 is why sales of both have plummeted. Being extremely uncompetitive in their respective classes/segments, even in this red hot market, no one is going to pay over sticker for them.
Call BS on non-production?, yes it's got to have the best Ring' time , luxury all for $19k with one being made 24/7 according to non XT4 buyers online...
What's the point of XT4 anyway? Envision looks better inside and out, rides and drives about the same, and is cheaper and more available. Seriously, it feels like GM made Envision to drive XT4 out of business.

So what current CUV within GM does the XT4 exactly look like then? I can't think of what GM's CUV from Chevy, GMC & Buick look like this on the inside & outside.
