We’re still getting used to the idea of quick, performance-oriented SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade HPE800 from Hennessey Performance, or that same firm’s upcoming 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST HPE650, which sees a supercharger bolted to the factory 6.2L L86 V8. Yet ambivalent as we may be, we can acknowledge that, at the very least, such vehicles are the perfect way to tell the laws of physics to shove it.
In this video, company founder John Hennessey gives us his thoughts on the new 2018 Chevy Tahoe RST, both before and after it’s been equipped with the HPE650 package. John praises the re-tuned suspension, saying the SUV is much more stable through corners while maintaining a pleasant, comfortable ride. In addition to the suspension upgrades, the Tahoe RST also features upgraded Brembo brakes from the factory – handy for hauling all 5,000-plus pounds to a stop.
There are easier ways to go fast than starting off with a three-row SUV, but of course, most of those vehicles don’t give you the option of bringing six of your closest friends along for the ride. Watch the video to see the Tahoe RST HPE650 in action for yourself, and stay tuned; there’s a bigger, badder “HPE800” upgrade also on the way for Chevrolet’s new performance SUV.
