Unconfirmed 2017 HSV GTS-R Revival Will Not Feature An LS9 V8 Engine

In the ongoing swan song that is the Holden VF Commodore, we’ve heard plenty of news surrounding what Holden itself and Holden Special Vehicles has planned to send it out with a bang.

HSV particularly has some special plans, including an all-but-confirmed return of the HSV GTS-R. However, like many previous reports, we were under the impression a 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V8 engine would be under the hood. That is not the case, according to LSXtv. We’ve heard the news before, but it is the first time we’ve heard confirmation.

Instead, the LS9 V8 engine will be saved for something even more special (read: exclusive) for HSV fanatics. The report goes on to state the GTS-R will return, but a familiar 6.2-liter LSA supercharged V8 will be present, much like the current Gen-F2 range of HSVs.

While fewer than 250 GTS-Rs are reportedly in the works, the real finale, featuring the LS9 engine, will be dwindled down to less than 140 units of production.

As to when these projects will see the light of day, we can’t say for sure. But, with the 2017 model year for the VF Commodore around the corner, you can bet details will begin to trickle out as the sand in local manufacturing’s hourglass begins to run out.

  1. I need one with either the LS9 or LSA (why be greedy!) I am a current 2015 SS owner and past G8 GXP as well as a all GM household (5 Vehicles 2015 SS, 2014 Tahoe, 2012 Acadia, 2008 Avalanche, 1967 Corvette and would represent the LS9 or LSA quite well in the midwest!
Please let me know how to get my name on one?
    Thanks
