Isuzu, which General Motors manages in South Africa, has recently released the KB X-Rider as a “special value model” to its light commercial vehicle range.
The truck is based on the KB250 Hi-Rider 4×2 and is powered by the high-output 2.5L common rail, direct injection turbo-diesel engine with a rating of 100kW (134 horsepower) and 320Nm (236 pound-feet of torque). The motor has been a stalwart of the KB range since the September 2015 facelift.
Brian Olson, Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing at General Motors South Africa, explains Isuzu’s rationale behind the KB X-Rider:
“Our aim with the X-Rider is to offer real value and individuality in a brand which is well known for toughness, reliability and comfort. The X-Rider follows on the success of special edition models of the past, such as the Midnite and Serengeti. The X-Rider continues the tradition but at a lower price point, providing added exclusivity and exceptional value for money.”
The KB X-Rider is available in both extended and double cab body styles and three different colors: Summit White, Switchblade Silver or Maranello Red. It comes standard with an uprated towbar, giving the X-Rider a 2.1-ton trailer capacity while standing out from other pickup trucks (called bakkies in South Africa) thanks to distinct visual cues, including:
- Exterior:
- Black diamond-cut 18-inch alloys wrapped in 255/60 all-terrain tires
- Black front bumper guard
- Light Emitting Diode (LED) daytime running lights
- Wheel caps with the Isuzu branding in red
- Black tubular side steps
- Black sports bar
- Blacked-out B-pillar
- X-Rider body decals
- Interior:
- Leather-trimmed steering wheel with red stitching
- Leather seats with red stitching and embroidered X-Rider logo on the front headrests
- Red stitching on the gearlever gaiter and steering wheel
- Piano Black door inserts with the red ‘X’ motif
- High-gloss accents on air conditioning vents, sound system and gearshift console
The KB X-Ride hit dealer lots the first week of July, and is priced as follows:
- Extended Cab: R 355,900 ($25,613.90)
- Double Cab: R 366,380 ($26,368.14)
About The Isuzu KB Truck
We should note that this Isuzu KB pickup truck is sold in other parts of the world as the Isuzu D-MAX or the Chevrolet Colorado and Holden Colorado outside North America. Meanwhile, the North American-market Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have components from the international-market Colorado/D-MAX/KB, but are not rebadges of those vehicles.
