Opel Motorsport and it works rally team, which consists of Marijan Griebel, Julius Tannert and Chris Ingram, recently kicked off their 2016 Junior FIA European Rally Championship season with the Circuit of Ireland event earlier this month. The event was no doubt a success for the German automaker, with Pole Lukasz Pieniazek taking victory in his Adam R2 ahead of Ingram and Marijan Griebel in second and third, respectively.
The Circuit of Ireland Rally, which was held from April 7th through to the 9th, was originally scheduled to be the second round of the 2016 FIA ERC Junior season, however it became the season-opening event after February’s Rallye Liepāja in Latvia was cancelled due to inclement weather. The event consisted of 14 different stages covering a total of 210 km (130 miles) and was contested by a total of twenty-six R2 racecars across the FIA ERC’s different classes.
Opel has posted a video rundown of its successful outing to Ireland to its YouTube page, so be sure to check it out above before the Opel Motorsport team heads to Greece next for the Seajets Acropolis Rally from May 6th through to the 8th.
