2016 C7 Corvette Z06 And Mercedes AMG GT R Spied At The Nürburgring: Video

We’re not sure of the premise behind this short video, but the 2016 C7 Corvette Z06 was spied at the famed Nürburgring and there happened to be one hell of a vehicle chasing it.

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R, which will only build upon the enormous success the current AMG GT, was caught right behind the 2016 C7 Corvette Z06. Is AMG benchmarking… a Chevrolet? We doubt it, but, hey, anything is possible.

Instead, we think it may be coincidental, but the Z06 is a hell raiser. It could be what AMG is trying to achieve in an even more hardcore variant of its flagship sports car.

Check out the quick video above.

  3. Getting lap times for this may be difficult if this was a Mercedes car test to see how their AMG GT-R compares against the C7 Corvette Z06 and not a Chevy test by chief engineer Tadge Juechter to see whether the car needs further refinement.

  4. If you look closely it appears the Z06 has manufacturer plates from Michigan, should rule out AMG using it to benchmark the GT-R. Also it looks like it has one of those Nurburgring stickers, perhaps they’re getting ready to release a “Nurburgring Edition” with a lap time. The last time a video of a Z06 on the ‘Ring surfaced it also had manufacturer plates, a sticker, and was driven by a driver with a white helmet with Corvette and Nurburgring stickers, but that was when the speed limit was still in place. Now that it’s lifted, looks to me like they’re trying to get a lap time.

  5. Its extremely expensive to rent out the ‘Ring, many times manufacturers will work together and go at the same time to split costs on the track rental and then have a sort-of gentleman’s agreement to mind their own business while they’re both there. There’s plenty of room on a 13 mile long track for both cars to be doing their own thing and not interfere with the other. I don’t know for a fact that is what this is, but its very common and is my best guess.

  6. I wish Nürburgring was more consistent about the lap times were abtained. Type of tires, weather it’s a wet or dry day, weather the car is stock or a tuner car.

This would be useful to compare lap times of similar cars.
