As the Volkswagen diesel scandal continues to play out, it has caused a resurgence in scrutiny over diesel powered vehicles by nearly all automakers. Recently, however, Opel has come under fire.
According to Reuters, Opel has denied cheating emissions regulations in Europe after University of Applied Sciences in Bern, Switzerland conducted emissions tests on the Zafira MPV.
According to the university’s findings, the Zafira allegedly produced emissions that were 17 times higher than current Euro 6 standards.
Germany’s environmental lobby group, DUH, said the 1.6-liter CDTi diesel engine was not in compliance after finding excessive nitric oxide emissions.
Opel has denied the findings completely, with no additional comment on the matter at this time.

As long as they don’t find any cheat devices installed they will be fine. The issue with VW is the cars were purposely designed to cheat the emission tests and that deceived the buyers of Volkswagens.
EURO 6 standards did not kick in until September 24, 2015 which means if any Opel Zafira diesel did violate the new emission standards, it’s a very small number of vehicles and nothing like the near 500,000 VW TDI cars in the US; further, one has to wonder whether the Opel Zafira that was tested was an old stock car or was this a new 2016 model.
