Mary Barra Wins Award For Her Contribution In Auto Industry Development

GM chief executive officer Mary Barra has again been recognized for her work in the automotive industry.

Barra, who was in Germany the other day to help unveil the new Astra and announce a new Opel product offensive, immediately flew to Spain following the Frankfurt Motor Show to accept the “Automotive Industry Key Player’ award from Spanish newspaper ‘El Mundo’. (It’s the first time Barra visited the country since being appointed CEO on January 15, 2014.)

Every year, the Spanish newspaper highlights key industry players for their contributions to auto industry development and this year Barra was recognized for her leadership skills and “focus on placing the customer at the center of all company activity.”

“It is very important for the entire GM team to focus on the customer, to be leaders in safety and quality and to become the most valued automotive company in the world,” she said. Barra is the ninth person to receive the award.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.
