Ricky Taylor put the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP on pole position for the Tequila Patron Sports Car Showcase at Long Beach Friday, which set him and his brother Jordan up for an easy victory come Sunday. The team and their Konica-Minolta sponsored Corvette solidified themselves as a top contender in 2015 when they turned up second at Sebring, but had yet to win a race this year before Sunday.
Wayne Taylor Racing has some points to make up after they were handed down a penalty at the 24 Hours of Daytona and turned up 52nd overall. Between the second place finish at Sebring and Sunday’s win in California, the team has begun their ascent towards the top as they attempt to catch championship leaders Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi.
Filing in behind the Taylor brothers was the Chip Ganassi Racing EcoBoost Daytona Riley Prototype of Scott Pruett and Joey Hand, followed by the VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP of Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante. The series-leading Action Express Corvette DP of Barbosa and Fittipaldi turned up fifth.
