The now defunct American Le Mans Series merged with the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series in 2014 to form the Tudor United Sportscar Championship, bringing many of its competing teams along with it, including Corvette Racing. ALMS provided us with some entertaining races, including its last ever event, the 2013 Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
Rain descended upon the already challenging Road Atlanta track during pracitice sessions prior to Petit Le Mans in 2013, just in time for Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner to hop in his C6.R. With a GoPro attached to his helmet, Milner climbed into the racecar and put his laps in, showing us all what it takes to drive for a world class team like Corvette Racing.
If you’ve ever wondered what makes racing cars so difficult, this video ought to clear things up. The view out of Milner’s front windshield is murky and the rain being spit up from cars in front doesn’t make things any easier. This adds to already difficult task of recording fast laps while dodging other cars of varying speeds and maintaining communication with your pit crew.
For a wonderful display of athletiscism complimented by an angry V8 soundtrack, check out the video below.
