2015 Corvette Z06 Chases A McLaren P1 At Circuit Of The Americas: Video

It’s common knowledge the C7 Corvette Z06 is one of the best automotive performance bargains currently on offer. For a starting price of $78,995, you get a car with a 650 horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 capable of near-200 mph speeds and keeping up with a Porsche 918 at Virginia International Raceway.

The Z06 is absurdly fast, a fact we learned first hand. It takes a special kind of car to make it look slow, but if there’s one road car that can, it’s the $1.6 million McLaren P1. With a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 producing 727 horsepower and a 176 horsepower electric motor, the P1 has an output of 903 horsepower. Pushed through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to the rear wheels, it will sprint from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and from 0-186 mph in 16.5 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 217 mph.

The Z06 can’t mess with numbers like that, no matter how you slice it. However one Z06 owner recently learned it’s somewhat possible to hold onto the back of a P1 through the corners at Circuit of the Americas. Using the Z06’s Performance Data Recorder, he recorded his time spent trailing a P1 during a recent track day at the Austin, Texas circuit. The hybrid hypercar easily walks away from him on the straights, but he just seems happy to marvel at its incredible speed.
