A long time ago, Rover bought the tooling for Buick’s aluminum V8 and made it the British version of the classic small-block Chevy. So what if you took a Rover − in this case a Land Rover Defender − and dropped in said small-block? Wildcat Automotive has done just that with a LS3.
Truth be told, UK-market Defenders typically are found with four-cylinder diesels, so this infusion of LS3 Corvette power transforms the classic SUV into a completely different animal. With 430 horsepower and a six-speed auto, this 4×4 goes in a straight line like no Rover before, but Wildcat Automotive can make it climb the Isle of Man in one fell swoop by upgrading the suspension if a buyer so desires, even though the Defender’s suspension is already Goldilocks-“just right” the way it is.
The Defender is being discontinued next year, but wouldn’t a Wildcat-modded Defender be a sweet swan song? Check out the below video and start saving your pence if you’re so inclined.
