Modified BMW 540i Marries GM Muscle With The “Ultimate Driving Machine”

Looking for a unique vehicle that marries the best of two distinctively different automotive cultures into one unholy creation of fun and luxurious flair? Then look no further than the world of Craigslist and this seemingly innocent 1999 BMW 540i which hides a potent secret under its carefully crafted bonnet.

While it may have arrived on this Earth as a stock 540i back in 1999, the current owner of this BMW embarked on an ambitious campaign of upgrading and honing this four door luxury sports sedan into perhaps one of the best sleeper cars we have seen in a good while. The exterior of this car is in excellent condition with no rust present (a rarity for this generation of 5 Series) and retains all of its stock trim pieces. However look beyond the deceptively discreet set of clothes, and you will find that the stock 295 horsepower 4.4 liter V8 has been shelved in lieu of a fire-breathing LS1 V8 which boasts a compelling mix of components from the LS2, and LS6 V8 engines as well as lifters borrowed from the mighty LS7 V8. While it is unknown how much power this tricked out V8 is indeed producing (we suspect over 500), all of this undocumented muscle is channeled through a stout Tremec T56 6-speed manual gearbox which was also swapped into the BMW for crisp shifts at high velocities.

While its list of issues is limited to the usual older BMW electrical gremlins (a broken rear window and non functioning fog lamps in this case) the engine appears to be in solid order and when combined with a $16,500 asking price. It represents a tempting bargain for enthusiasts that want GM muscle but in a unique package that will certainly stand out among the rest. You can check out the ad for this special BMW here (if the listing is not deleted yet) and see for yourself if it has what it takes to find a home in your garage.
