Opel To Unveil Astra OPC EXTREME Super Sports Study At Geneva

General Motors’ European subsidiary Opel will unveil what it calls “a true super sports car” at the 84th Geneva Motor Show taking place March 6th through the 16th.

Dubbed Astra OPC EXTREME, the sports car will follow in the steps of the Astra OPC X-treme concept shown in 2002. But while the X-treme from ten years ago was a one-off model that wasn’t available for public consumption, the new EXTREME will be available as a low-volume production run model, while being the fastest street-legal Astra ever.

In earning that title, the Astra OPC EXTREME will follow the Opel Performance Center motto of “OPC. Pure Passion”. In fact, the model will be directly derived from the Astra OPC Cup race car from the Nürburgring Endurance Championship (VLN) while being street legal. It will utilize carbon components to reduce weight compared to the non-EXTREME Astra OPC while featuring an integrated safety structure, racing seats, and six-point harness for the track.

According to Opel, the idea for the extremely-high-performance OPC EXTREME was born at the Opel Performance Center located next to the legendary Nürburgring racetrack.

Here’s to even more cars like this from Opel and GM.

  3. This is like their version of the Z/28. It will be expensive, basic and fast. This is why I expect a Track version of the Corvette in the next year or so.

I just wish they would move this engine to a normal street car as there is no reason why they could not. I have 300 HP in a Eco now and know it can handle much more if it had a better transmission.
