2017 Opel Insignia Rendered, Tweeted By Opel Chief Dr. Karl Thomas Neumann

Automotive publications are frequently releasing renders of upcoming vehicles, but it’s uncommon for automotive executives to acknowledge or comment on the designs. However, that’s exactly what happened when German auto website AutoBild published a render of what they expect to resemble the upcoming 2017 Opel Insignia, using cues from the rakish Monza Concept.

AutoBild first released the unconfirmed photo of the 2017 Insignia in November of 2013. When Opel/Vauxhall CEO Dr. Karl Thomas Neumann came across it he, or the PR team running his social media accounts, tweeted the picture with the inquiry, “what do you think?” That being the case, it seems unlikely Dr. Neumann would ask for the public’s opinion if the renders weren’t at least a little accurate.

The photos show what we consider a handsome design with a fastback style hatch. We’ve heard talk of a design like this before, when Mark Reuss described the upcoming Buick flagship as “a much more beautiful (Porsche) Panamera.” With General Motors looking to further align its Buick and Opel brands, we could also very well be looking at the next Buick flagship.

  2. This is exactly what GM needs for Buick. It has a very sleek and desirable profile to it.

  3. Finally something exciting for Opel and Buick alike.

  4. Towards the back it looks Astra/verano ish

  5. It looks quite different. But different is what GM needs! I personally don’t like the rear end (from what I can see) and the front airdams are interesting. . .

  6. As I have been saying Buicks time is coming and it will shock and show people why they are still around.

Note this has a Opel grill but the hood has similar lines to the Buicks with the raises sides.

As for the rear just let them show you the whole car. Also note the Buick could have a little different tail as hatches here are not as popular here as in the Opel market.

Again you have not seen anything at Buick yet. This is only one of the surprises we will see.

One important thing is do not expect Chevy Prices. It will under cut Cadillac but these cars will not be cheap but then again it will not just be a fancy Chevy either.

    1. I will be waiting. But as of now, I still think Buick is lame and a waste of money for GM and the consumers who buy them. . .

  7. It’s definitely not dull, and that in itself is a good start. A cool looking but utilitarian car would be great for Buick. Would it be the next Insignia/Regal or a flagship above the LaCrosse?

    1. It could be a new Lacrosse too! It reminds me too much of an Acura which doesn’t turn my crank. . .

  8. It’s more like what Acura *should* have been doing. I like Acura, but things have gotten progressively worse since the debut of the “Power Plenum” grille, AKA “The Beak”.

As for this car becoming a LaCrosse, I doubt it. More than likely, the Insignia is going to end up being translated into exactly what it is now, the Regal…a midsized offering that slots above the compact Verano and the full-sized LaCrosse.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting on that reincarnated Riviera I was promised…

  9. I do not see this as a replacement for the Regal unless they move the Regal replacement up to replace the Lacrosse. This is a new platform so anything could happen.

As for the Buick owners Evan they think you are lame too but deal with it very well. With 1.6million sold in China last year all they can say is 你他妈的 LOL!

  10. In 2012 Buick sold 800000 in china. I don’t think they doubbled their sales in one year.

  11. You are correct!

Sorry I grabbed the wrong number as the one I had was all GM sales.

Not counting Opel models that they share Buick moved just under 1,000,000 units here and in China. Add more new models here and increase sales these numbers will continue to climb.

No matter how you want to spin it the sales in China make it to where GM has no risk here as they will make good money on even small numbers. Grow Buick here with the new product and they may be the most profitable division per unit. That is the magic of the global market as you do not have to put all your eggs in one basket and gives you a lot of room to move and take chances on special models and markets.

  12. Just read it today Buick just sold 1M cars this year globally

  13. I’ve always felt that Buick may end up being in the long run more Important that Caddy due to the sheer volume sold in China.
In addition, Buick is putting itself into the Lexus/Lincoln fighter position which is far less costly than Cadillac for R&D.
