We’re always thrilled to get vehicle tours by designers and engineers — as they usually provide unique perspectives and insight that can only come from a significant amount of time spent working on a car, along with real passion and skill. This tour of the Opel Mokka (aka Buick Encore) by the former chief of Opel design Mark Adams is no exception — as the designer brings attention to vehicle elements and design cues we don’t necessarily notice, such as the continuation of the roof line into the crossover’s rear hips:
Since heading up design of the Mokka, Adams has been appointed executive director of global Cadillac and Buick design and will work out of Warren, Michigan. It will be interesting how he advances the design of each luxury brand going forward… but back to the Mokka/Encore: does this tour make you appreciate the design of the vehicle more? The Mokka/Encore reminds me of a cross between a Vibe and the last-generation Saturn Vue.
Saw my first Encore in the flesh today — loaded one — and very definitely a Buick . Very, very nice…….if they price it right, it will be a good seller. Lines flow very well, color was nice too – a departure from the bland greys and blacks that have dominated many GM vehicles.
