If you were the President of General Motors North America, and you had access to the technology and resources to construct your own vehicle, what would it be? For Mark Reuss, it’s a supercar based on the amazing Cadillac Cien concept, with the Chevy Volt’s electric drivetrain powering the front wheels. Additionally, Reuss states that a mid-mounted 2.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing a hypothetical 440 horsepower would power the rear wheels.
Reuss would also like to see his dream car with Recaro seats from the Opel Insignia OPC, night vision, and Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 rubber a la Camaro ZL1. Delicious. Though, surely he isn’t the only GM enthusiast with such a vivid imagination. What kind of car would you construct from the GM parts bin?

I’ll take the 11.9L V-16 engine from the sixteen in the back. Volt drivetrain up front. Cadillac XTS Dashboard. That’s good.
I would start with a volt and make it rwd. With a mid engine LFX and 6T70 transmission add magnatorhlogical shocks. And make it lighter by removing the front engine and electric motors and battery’s.
If this is what the President of GM can come up with then I am deeply worried. I was simply not interested, let alone blown away. The fact that he started with a concept car chassis says that no matter how hard engineers try they could never pull a “VW Golf GTI” on management…In other words, build a “buildable” car in their spare time then pitch it to management. The interviewer asked for GM PARTS BIN STUFF. If he can’t handle just that bit of instruction, then God help us.
This is what I would do:
Chevrolet Cruze chassis
6 speed manual transmission and AWD system from Chevrolet Orlando
2.0L 16v DI turbo
(I’d be the President so I’d really instruct the engineers to do up a custom exhaust manifold and ECU tune and drop in a second turbo 😀 )
Front mounted intercooler
Brakes/rotors from Camaro SS
Rims/wheels from Camaro SS
Lovely stuff. Completely doable.
Hey Reuss, why don’t you stop day dreaming and just concentrate on making stellar mid-sizers and compacts for the world?
But hey, if you’re going to day dream, at least dream realistically. The Cien isn’t in the GM parts bin and never will be.
id start with the cruze but id take the 2.0l turbo and transmission from the gs and mount it behind the driver running the rearwheels id also put on the elr’s body (i know not in production but whatever) and suspension from the zl1 and brakes from the zr1 and the dash from the ats and recaro seats from whatever
