GM Pulls Ad Due To Outcry From Cyclists

GM’s ad campaign for its college student discount has been hounded by cyclists who poorly received a college newspaper advertisement. The ad in question features some guy on a bike making a “don’t-look-at-me” gesture to a woman passing him by in a fresh set of wheels. On the bottom left corner it reads: “Stop pedaling… start driving.”

Regardless how you feel about cyclists, their bright spandex and their misplaced sense of owning the road, it’s easy to see where the outcry stems from. Therefore, GM has pulled the controversial ad in response to the allegation, and has been sending out apologies all day from its Twitter page.

  1. I can’t get over this so a bunch of bored college kids decided they thought GM was anti-bicycle, Ru serious. Dude when I was on campus heck ya I walked and rode a bike, most campuses are designed for this activity. Boys and girls the rest of us don’t live on campuses and we have to drive to get from point A to B. That being said GM should do better market research when creating ADs for certain demographics, especially those fancy ivy leagers that got there panties in a bunch over this AD.

    1. Well-put.

I wonder what the pro-bikers would recommend for someone who played college hockey such as myself — do I put my hockey bag on the handle bars or get one of those fold-out baskets for the rear? And my sticks — well, naturally, those go… yeah, nowhere.

I’m all for fitness and activity; heck, I’m a certified personal trainer and ran a gym at one point in my life. I even get on my friends about doing something (or not) as it relates to health and wellness. But this is much ado about nothing.

  4. Oh man, this world is pathetic. If you are a cyclist and take offense to this….really? I get offended when I have to share the road with these idiots.
