Of the 20,655 U.S. sales of the Chevy Equinox in April, 4,500 were of the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox — the first month that newly-compact crossover was available for purchase after production commenced at the GM CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada.
All units of the 2018 Equinox delivered in April were equipped with the base turbocharged 1.5L LYX engine, as models with the more powerful 2.0L LTG turbo engine will arrive this summer, followed by vehicles with the 1.6L LH7 turbo-diesel engine.
2018 Chevy Equinox
April auto sales across the industry were driven by exceptionally strong crossover sales, with General Motors being no exception. The automaker has an onslaught of upcoming crossovers, including the Equinox’s platform mate — the 2018 GMC Terrain, along with two all-new full-size models utilities: the all-new 2018 Chevy Traverse and 2018 Buick Enclave. A compact Cadillac XT4 will slot under the midsize XT5 while while a larger Cadillac XT7 will slot above it. What’s more, rumor has it that Chevy will resurrect the Blazer name for a midsize crossover to slot between the Equinox and Traverse. It’s kinda expected that it’s going to be 1.5T as that’s what’s they have as of now.
That’s not the point, however.
Until now, it is/was not a known fact that the 1.5T models will be coming before the 2.0T models (the fact that the diesel will be available slightly later was well-known). Hence, it’s noteworthy that the 2018 Equinox has a different roll-out cadence compared to most other GM launches in recent years in that the lower-end model is being produced and shipped (and purchased) first, before any other model.
75% of Equinoxes sold were old model which can be had w/ V6 engine. I would think GM wants to sell off old models before full slate of new models come out. There’ll be plenty of people going for last gen Equinox with V6 instead of new model w/1.5T engine. New Nox with 2.0T would make people forget about last gen. model.
I looked one over at a dealer the other day and decided it wasn’t for me and that the previous one was better.
