Opel of Ireland has made a healthy contribution to FoodCloud, as it announced €3,000,000 worth of food over the next 12 months.
Business World reports 2.3 million meals will find their way to those in need through 250 charities. FoodCloud itself is a social enterprise that connects businesses with surplus food to local charities who need it most. In the country of Ireland, one million tons of food are wasted each year, while one in eight Irish live in food poverty.
“We have been following FoodCloud over the past few years so I’m thrilled that we’re in a position to make such a significant investment to the movement,” Head of Marketing and PR for Opel Ireland, Gillian Whittall said.
The food will be delivered in several custom Opel vans over the next year.
