Opel has gone on the record to state the upcoming 2017 Insignia will be “one of the most beautiful cars you will have seen in years,” according to Design Director, Malcolm Ward. If the latest round of spy shots are anything to go by, Opel seems to have a design recipe to whip up success judging by the rakish rear profile.
Plenty of plastic cladding has been added to the rear profile to skew our view but, much like World Car Fans which captured the car, it won’t fool us.
It’s easy to see through the extra cladding and camouflage to a pronounced slope in the rear after taking a look at the rear window placement and the pseudo pillars that have been applied. The car is also noticeably longer than the current Opel Insignia, and will most likely grow substantially on General Motors E2XX platform.
Weight will also be shed for the upcoming generation, a rumored 441 pounds to be exact. This should alleviate some of the current stress on the platform as it works to move its bulk in a cumbersome fashion.
The 2017 Opel Insignia will make the trek as a Buick in both China and the U.S., and to Australia as the most-likely contender for the 2018 Holden Commodore.

It looks like this will have the same profile as the 2016 Malibu, which makes sense since they share the same platform.
