Last year, General Motors CEO, Mary Barra, claimed the number two spot on the Forbes Most Powerful Women List, but this year she has taken the top spot.
The only automotive executive to be named to the list, Barra was praised for her handling of a tough 2014, which was also her first year under the roll of CEO at GM. 2014 saw the immense ignition-switch recall, and fallout from the delaying of said recall, but, the company she’s in charge of still pulled out a $1.1 billion net income.
2015 is poised to be an even better year for Barra, despite a slowing Chinese market. Under her leadership, GM will introduce essential new models for the Chevrolet and Cadillac brands, and continue to push Opel back into the black.
Barra has found a spot on the Most Powerful Women List since 2012, where she ranked 27th.
