Corvette Racing is a factory-backed racing effort, but the smaller teams in the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship have had no problem trading blows with the official Chevy race squad in recent years. BMW and Porsche currently lead Chevy in the manufacturer standings, and Corvette Racing’s drivers are also being hounded for the GTLM lead as the season wears on.
BMW Team RLL drivers Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner trail Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen by just two points as the TUDOR series readies for the upcoming Continental Tire Road Race Showcase. Garcia and Magnussen kicked 2015 off with back-to-back endurance wins at Daytona and Sebring, while Auberlen and Werner have a win at Long Beach and two second-place finishes to their name.
Winning at Road America, and finishing well in every race from here on out, will be crucial for Magnussen and Garcia if they wish to hold off Werner and Auberlen. They won’t be the only car Corvette Racing will have to look out for at Road America, though, as defending race winners Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer will also be returning in their No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia.
CorvetteRacing, BMW Team RLL and the rest of the TUDOR USCC field will take to the 14-turn Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, WI this weekend. If you want to cheer the yellow Corvettes on, the race will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 beginning at 3 p.m. ET. Sunday.
