We already knew that the popular Chevrolet Equinox is getting a mild facelift for the 2016 model year. And now, we also know the associated equipment changes in store for the freshened crossover, which are quite similar to those seen on the 2016 GMC Terrain.
To start, the 2016 Chevy Equinox loses five colors while adding four new ones:
Deleted Colors
- Black Granite Metallic
- Crystal Red Tintcoat
- White Diamond Tricoat
- Silver Topaz Metallic
- Sea Grass Metallic
New Colors
- Patriot Blue Metallic
- Mosaic Black Metallic (extra cost)
- Siren Red Tintcoat (extra cost)
- Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
Furthermore, the 2016 Equinox does away with:
- CD player and Rear Seat Entertainment System
- Chrome & Convenience Package
- One set of chrome-clad 19-inch wheels and associated tires as well as a set of 18-inch chrome-clad wheels
What’s more, the 2016 Chevy Equinox adds the new entry-level L trim level while removing the mid-level 2LT trim. Plus, the 3.6L V6 LFX engine will no longer be available on the 1LH26 and 1LJ26 FWD models, and OnStar delete is no longer an option, meaning that OnStar can no longer be deleted from the Equinox.
Outside, the 2016 Equinox gets a new black grille with a chrome surround, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, and a new set of fog lamps on the LTZ. There are also new 17- and 8-inch wheels.
From a new equipment standpoint, the 2016 Chevy Equinox also replaces the base cloth on L and LS models with Premium cloth seats. Other new features include:
- Technology Package that includes Chevrolet MyLink radio with Navigation and Pioneer premium 8-speaker sound system
- Enhanced Convenience Package that includes 8-way power front passenger seat, power programmable rear liftgate and Universal Home Remote
- Driver Confidence Package that includes Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Park Assist

When is the new envision coming to the lots. Cost and equipment standard
Some time in 2016. Starting price will be in the low 30s. It’s way too early to discuss standard features for the U.S. market since the car hasn’t even been announced for the U.S. yet.
Just took delivery on a 2016 Equinox LTZ with the Premium Pioneer sound system and discovered that a CD player is not available in any package nor can you adjust the tone (to much base). My wife is so very not happy with me and the car! (because of this) Is there an after market dealer installed option?
I commend GM for the changes. However I do not understand the elimination of Ashen Gray was a color that gave Elegance and style. Please make a request for GM most of their cars to double its gray or black or silver tones.
I recommend a particular color Red Rock Metallic and stiffer suspension low 1inch SS Package .
We just bought a 2016 Equinox LTZ fully loaded. We absolutely loved it!!! Unfortunately we were car /3 in a chain reaction accident & it was totaled after only owning it for 26 hours. All the air bags were deployed & the passenger compartment remained intact. We were able to open all 4 doors. Other than My bruising from the seat belt ( I was the passenger) we were fine. We have bought another 2016 Equinox because we feel they are such a SAFE car.
We just bought a 2016 Equinox and was just wondering how many speakers are in it and where are they. Thanks
On the 2016 Equinox LS is the 8-way power driver’s seat standard equipment?
I just bought a 2016 Equinox LTZ that apparently has a standard stereo system that is NOT anything like what my 2013 Equinox LTZ had. This is disappointing as the manual EQ adjustment doesn’t help and there can’t possibly be a subwoofer installed as the options list stated. Anyone else having this issue with a poor quality stereo?
That’s not good. We got a 12 NOx looking at a 16. CD players gone on 16s too. What a bummer!
Have a 2016 Equinox : 6 months and the only Major complaint: NO CD PLAYER! My choices again are taken away! What is the reason for not having one? Years ago we were able to “attach” cd players to cars that didn’t have them: is this an option with todays vehicles?
