2015 Corvette Z06 Brake, Tire Replacement Can Cost More Than A New Chevy Cruze

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the proud owner of a new 2015 Corvette Z06? Of course you have, we’ve all fantasized about throttling its LT4 supercharged V8 both at the track and between the lights, and admiring the exotic looks as we step out of the cockpit. And while its MSRP remains a performance bargain, chances are the Z06 is more expensive to own than you may think. So expensive, in fact, that a set of new Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires, carbon ceramic Z06 rotors, and brake pads cost more than a brand new Chevrolet Cruze.

It’s almost jaw dropping, that a 2015 Chevy Cruze starting at $16,170 is more affordable than the previously listed maintenance parts for a 2015 Corvette Z06. The parts come to a total of $16,730, which is $17,859.96 after taxes, according to a quote posted online from a Chevrolet dealer customer. But hey, pay to play. World-class Brembo hardware isn’t cheap.

Of course, there are a cheaper alternatives to dealership prices, as one commenter suggested ordering the parts online instead of the dealership – the total price being $9,900 shipped.

  1. Well let also qualify this a little more.

While the tires will not last long there are much cheaper tires out there with good grip and longer miles to be had.

As for the brakes it is important to note that the pads will last in many cases at least 100,000 miles or longer. These are not low mileage pads or rotors and even with some track time many owners will sell the car long before they will wear out the pads. Ceramic is not like regular pads and rotors and the life span is much more even under harsh conditions.

This makes it a little less dramatic.

    1. Definitely. Carbon Ceramic rotors may be expensive – but it’s not likely you’ll ever have to replace the rotors for a long, long time, if ever, depending on usage.

    2. This is absolutely wrong. The carbon ceramic brakes are not designed to last a long time. They are designed for performance and that’s it. A couple track days and they’re done just as fast as any other. The rotors cannot be resurfaced either.

      1. I have the 2015 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 carbon ceramic brakes, 20,000 miles, about 75% of that being track and hard driving. Brake pads / rotors show zero sign of any wear whatsoever. I expect these brakes to last way over 100,000 miles even with this aggressive driving. Having to replace brakes should be the last thing on a new Corvette Z06 owner’s mind, unless he/she expects to keep the car long after 100k miles.

The tires were toast after 7,000 miles so definitely agree you will go through a set of tires in the blink of an eye if you stick with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, but the brakes should last forever relative to the life of the car.

  2. On Porsche’s, ceramic brakes add $7-$10k. While the ceramics have great stopping ability and fade free performance, many track afficionados who have ceramics replace them with steel brakes for cost savings. The ceramics still wear out rather quickly just like the steel rotors when you track the car. I would think the same would be true for the Z06.

  3. Also please note this is for the ZO7 option. Some might think this is on all ZO6 cars.

  4. I have a 2015 z07 less then 15K miles, ceramic rotors are toast, if you know how to drive this car at the limit you will burn thru pads and rotors, plus tires of course.
Those of you who drive like normal folks and do not track your car, yup those ceramics will last a long time
