Four Wheeler Magazine recently held their annual Top Truck Challenge, which sees competitors and their hugely modified rock-crawlers participate in a number of challenges to see who’s built the best off-roader. This year several General Motors products participated in the event, including 1995 Chevrolet S10, a 1992 GMC Jimmy, a 1992 GMC K1500 and more.
Motor Trend recently posted the footage from the first two Top Truck Challenge events on their YouTube channel. The first was the Tow Test, which requires competitors to tow a huge 36,000 pound AM General M936 A2 up a dirt hill. This event requires the tow vehicle in question to have a strong frame and tow assembly, plenty of grip and gobs of torque. We won’t ruin the results for you, but let’s just say not all of the participants make it up the hill.
The second test is appropriately known as the “Frame Twister.” It’s essentially a multi-stage obstacle course which incorporates several tricky aspects of off-road driving including rock crawling, wading through mud and driving over obstacles such as wet logs and cement pipes.
We have to be honest, we don’t normally watch this sort of thing. On-road driving has always been more our forte, but we had great fun watching these guys fearlessly attack some intimidating challenges. Check out the video below and if you like what you see, check back to MT’s YouTube channel as they continue to post more Top Truck Challenge videos.
