Hideo Kodama is the former design director of small cars at Opel and the man responsible for the Opel Junior concept car. In fact, it might be fair to call him the Opel Senior, since the Junior is clearly his baby – Kodama claims it’s one of the best jobs he had at Opel.
Unveiled in 1983, Kodama says the Junior concept car, which came out a year after the original Corsa, was an initial step in the design of the second-generation Corsa B – a car that materialized a decade later in 1993.
That ten-year gap is probably why we really have to squint to see design elements of the Junior in the Corsa B, but the concept is certainly an interesting look into Opel’s mindset in the early 1980s.
