There are two kinds of classic car owners: those who let their classic car(s) sit idle, and those who actually drive their old machine(s). Count this classic Corvette L88 owner among the latter.
One of 116 L88 427 Corvettes produced in 1969, the owner of this possibly $1 million Corvette decided to take his or her classic ‘Vette to the track. Specifically the drag strip.
Better yet, it was filmed.
Armed with a Turbo 400 automatic transmission and a factory claimed 430-horsepower coming from its big V8, the car’s quarter-mile time of 11.49 seconds at 121 mph pretty much confirms the long-standing acknowledgement that the L88 really produced almost 550-horsepower.
Of course there were some risks in taking this rare Corvette to the track, such as possibly blowing up the engine, or simply losing control of the insanely powerful coupe and hitting the wall. Tell us, if you were the owner of an L88 Corvette would you risk it and take the car for a trip to the quarter-mile drag strip?

I would drive it with plenty of insurance. It was built to be driven. It’s not a statute or a painting for me to look at.
Funny that in 45 years the supercar version has not gotten much faster…glass ceiling???
