How The 2014 Cadillac ELR Works: Video

Even though the 2014 Cadillac ELR shares its Voltec powertrain system with the less expensive and more widely available Chevrolet Volt, it has its own set of unique features which sets it apart from its platform mate.

Much like the Volt, the ELR is powered solely by electric drive and has an onboard 1.4 liter gasoline generator which seamlessly recharge the lithium ion battery when needed. However the ELR is fitted with a model exclusive Regen On Demand system, which stores the kinetic energy created by the vehicle while its coasting by pulling the paddles on the back of the steering wheel.

How the ELR works is briefly explained in a recently released video by General Motor’s chief engineer for electric vehicles, Pamela Fletcher. Scroll below to check it out.

  1. I knew the Volt had aggressive leasing deals, so I looked into ELR lease rates. $1000/month over 48 months. Not bad, but not good lol. Neal McDonough was right.
