’66 Batmobile Versus ’89 Batmobile: Who Ya’ Got? (Slightly NSFW Video)

Trekkies and Star Wars fans enjoy eloquently displaying their knowledge of their respected obsessions any chance they get. It seems that comic book fans are no different. And thankfully, things go beyond just the petty arguments, as some real-world testing takes place. The question of the day: which Batmobile is faster? The “atomic-powered” original piloted by Adam West in the 1960’s TV show, or the “jet-powered” 1989 model from Tim Burton’s Batman action movie?

If you can make it past the first five minutes of cheesy rabble, the builder of the cars steps in to explain why this is relevant to GM Authority readers. As it turns out, the ’66 Batmobile utilizes a C4 Corvette for its underpinnings with a fuel-injected small-block V8 with and estimated 300-325 horsepower. The latter utilizes a small-block as well, but generates a lesser 285 ponies — though it does have machine guns. We’re not so sure about the “9-second quarter mile times,” though.

We’re not even sure that the drag race was carried out fairly, however. If you take notice, the ’89 holds onto left lane at the beginning of the race, only to swap places when looking through the slow-motion replay. It’s pretty easy to figure out that the guys just wanted to see the host wash the car in a bikini as a result of losing a bet. Yes, this video may be a tad NSFW. Comic book fans have to get their fixes in somehow.
